Velatine emerged in 1998 when Loki Lockwood began exploring electronica by blending cinematic, industrial, and pop elements. After releasing instrumental albums during lockdowns, Lockwood connected with vocalist Maggie Alley in 2021. Their collaboration proved immediately successful, with Alley bringing emotional depth and a distinctive vocal style reminiscent of PJ Harvey and Siouxsie Sioux to complement Lockwood's unconventional electronic compositions.
