The Courtneys

The Courtneys draw from various genres including surf rock, grunge, and jangle-pop, and were the first non-New Zealand band to sign with Flying Nun in 35 years. Their inspirations include Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Pavement, Dinosaur Jr., and Fugazi, while citing influences from Teenage Fanclub, Big Star, and Phoenix on their second album. Shoegaze, noted for its unique open tuning, is also an influence in Courtney Loove's style. The band is known for including pop culture references in their lyrics, from actors like Keanu Reeves to movies and TV shows like "Lost Boys" and "90210", and even musicians like Slayer and Nü Sensae.
