The Baddest Hubbard is a 1975 release featuring four lengthy tracks from CTI Freddie Hubbard albums of the '70s. By harnessing the ambitious Creed Taylor production on Red Clay and First Light, Hubbard was able to transition away from his Blue Note-era hard bop sound. The Don Sebesky scoring on "In A Mist" added a light-textured, advanced touch, though not on the level of Miles Davis and Gil Evans collaborations. Whoever compiled The Baddest Hubbard highlighted Hubbard's artistry making for an unassuming, yet rewarding LP.
