Car Seat Headrest was initially an outlet for musician Will Toledo's youthful and frustrated songs, often recorded in the back seat of a car. After 11 albums on Bandcamp in four years, Matador Records noticed Toledo and signed him. His songs capture the best elements of various bands on the label, including Guided by Voices, Pavement, New Pornographers, Yo La Tengo, Liz Phair, and Times New Viking. Teens of Style features revamped versions of his favorite tracks, with the assistance of drummer Andrew Katz and bassist Jacob Bloom.
