Description
Taeko Ohnuki, a key figure in Japanese pop music, launched her career as a founding member of Sugar Babe, a J-pop band founded by Tatsuro Yamashita. Though the group did not achieve much success, their sound greatly influenced the city pop genre that became popular in the late 1970s and 1980s. Ohnuki's second album, Sunshower, is often categorized as city pop, but it actually predates the glamorous, metropolitan style typically associated with the genre and delves into more personal topics. Notably, this album features an impressive lineup of pre-YMO Haruomi Hosono and Ryuichi Sakamoto, Tatsuro Yamashita lending his voice, renowned guitarist Kenji Omura, and Sadistic Mika Band bassist Tsugutoshi Goto.
