Spirits

The Circling Sun, a New Zealand jazz collective of record collectors, music producers, and DJs, releases their debut Spirits album in May 2023, via London-based Soundway Records.

Drawing influence from Sun Ra, Pharoah Sanders, and Alice Coltrane, the mixture of spiritual grooves, vibrant horn solos, and meditative textures, with Latin rhythms and Pacific Island and Maori choir vocals, celebrates their culture.

Written and produced by Drummer Julien Dyne, a member of The Lahaar which recently released their EP for Soundway, Spirits features fellow Avantdale Bowling Club band member J.Y Lee (saxophones/flute/bass clarinet) and Ben Turua (acoustic bass), as well as Cameron Allen (saxophones), Finn Scholes (trumpet/vibraphone) and Guy Harrison (piano/keyboards).
