Salute To The Sun
Matthew Halsall's first album as leader since 2015, Salute to the Sun marks the debut of his vibrant new Manchester-based ensemble. Featuring flute, saxophone, harp, piano, drums and percussion, the album draws inspiration from nature and tropical field recordings. The result is a collection of wholly improvised spiritual jazz grooves, deeply soulful melodies built around hypnotic harp and kalimba patterns, and some of Halsall's most beautiful trumpet playing to date. Recorded during the band's weekly sessions with a relaxed, unforced energy, the album captures playful, earthy soundscapes connected to the rhythms of nature. Warm, charming, and imbued with healing melodies and the energy of life.
