A masterclass in retro soul fusion. King Britt orchestrates a seamless blend of underground soul and 80s R&B across this standout album, enlisting an impressive roster of guest vocalists—Alison Moyet, Martin Fry, Kathy Sledge, Alma Horton, Grover Washington Jr, and Trugoy of De La Soul. Each collaboration feels purposeful rather than scattered, unified by Britt's sophisticated production sensibility. The result captures that elusive sound we chased through the 80s but rarely heard executed this thoughtfully. Essential tracks: "Cobbs Creek", "Skipping Stones", "One & Only", "Romeo's Fate", "Incident On A Couch", "All The Way Live", "'84 Fantastik", and "Beauty Of Machines".
