Push
BBE Music presents 'Push', a landmark 1978 soul/jazz album by Noriko Miyamoto, produced by legendary Japanese jazz figure Isao Suzuki. Originally released on Yupiteru Records, this debut has become a cult favourite among collectors worldwide, with original pressings commanding high prices. Miyamoto's journey began as a dancer at Tokyo's iconic 'Mugen' disco, inspired by Tina Turner to pursue soul singing. Discovered by Suzuki in 1977, she joined his Soul Family band, leading to this album that blends her soulful English vocals with Suzuki's acoustic bass and a vibrant ensemble featuring future jazz luminaries. The album showcases Miyamoto's rare gift for singing in English, featuring jazz standards 'Everything I Have Is Yours' and 'Stella By Starlight', alongside original compositions. It captures a pivotal moment in Japanese jazz—mixing orthodox jazz with crossover fusion sounds of the era. This marks the first official worldwide release of 'Push', honouring Suzuki's legacy as one of Japan's most influential jazz innovators and talent developers.
