Rein Sanction was an American rock band formed in 1981 in Jacksonville, Florida. They debuted with a self-titled 12-inch EP in 1989, followed by their first album, Broc's Cabin, in 1991, released by  Sub Pop Records. "Mariposa" was their second album for the label.

Their music blended grunge and art rock, drawing comparisons to bands like Dinosaur Jr. and Hüsker Dü.
