Live At Lovely

Japanese master drummer Takeo Moriyama leads a stellar quartet through modal, post-bop and spiritual jazz in this December 1990 live session from Nagoya's Lovely club. Backed by pianist Fumio Itabashi, bassist Hideaki Mochizuki and saxophonist Toshihiko Inoue, Moriyama delivers commanding performances across five tracks, four composed by Itabashi. The interplay is tight and revelatory—from the blistering post-bop opener 'Sunrise' to the expansive 20-minute 'Exchange'.
