Life of a Kid in the Ghetto
This first album by Boston rap group ED O.G & Da Bulldogs, released in 1991, is an important piece of the emerging Boston hip hop scene, often overshadowed by the more dominant New York hip hop of the 90s. ED O.G's personal experiences with social class, poverty, and racism on the East Coast are deeply explored in this album, with a strong focus on black liberation. The name itself, "Bulldogs," is an acronym for "Black United Leaders Living Directly On Grooving Sounds," and the album includes samples of Malcom X's speeches. ED O.G's skillful use of lyrics and flow in this album have been highly praised by his peers, solidifying Boston's place in the explosive 90s rap industry in the United States.
