JAZZY SPORT PAST FORWARD: SILVER
Revisiting the sound and spirit of Jazzy Sport, rooted in Japan and carried forward by a new generation. Compiled by Nina Yamada, featuring Cro-Magnon and grooveman Spot, with remixes by DJ Mitsu the Beats and Idjut Boys.
Founded in 2002, Jazzy Sport became a landmark independent label and record shop network across Japan, defining a distinctly open-minded strain of club culture through hip-hop, house, jazz, broken beat and live musicianship. The collective also expanded into apparel, design, dance studios and community spaces—embodying the belief that music, sport and everyday life create community together.
PAST FORWARD: SILVER is the first release on Jazzy Sport London, distributed by Time Capsule. Established in 2022, this compilation carries the archive and its values forward through a new generation, with selections curated by Nina Yamada—daughter of a Jazzy Sport core member and lifelong participant in the community.
The music moves between hip-hop and house, electronic production and live performance. DJ Mitsu the Beats' refined remix of Cro-Magnon's "Eclipse," Idjut Boys' deep rework, and grooveman Spot's "Do The Dance" sit alongside Nubian Lady's Detroit-Chicago influenced techno, Physical Sound Sport's communal live energy, and Bottom Fly's Morioka-rooted beats. What connects them is a shared sensibility—making this a working selection for DJs and listeners alike, not just a nostalgic best-of.
