Herbs are a New Zealand reggae group founded in 1979, led by singer-guitarist Dilworth Karaka. The band features a multi-ethnic lineup including Samoans, Tongans, Cook Islanders, Māori, and European members. During 1989, legendary Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh collaborated with the band, serving as producer and instrumentalist on their 1990 release Homegrown. Walsh contributed slide guitar and vocals to the album, which included a rendition of "Walk Away Renee" by The Left Banke. Though Walsh briefly joined Herbs as a full member, the partnership concluded within a year. The experience proved transformative for Walsh, who credits the band's invitation to visit Hawke's Bay's historic ruins with providing the clarity that motivated his journey toward sobriety.
