Herb Geller Plays

Aside from four titles from a previous year, this LP features Herb Geller, an expert altoist, in his first recordings as a leader. The tracks were recorded during the time Geller was based in Los Angeles and collaborating with his wife, talented pianist Lorraine Geller who sadly passed away young. The music also showcases either Curtis Counce or Leroy Vinnegar on bass and Lawrence Marable or Eldridge Freeman on drums. Geller, already in his prime, contributes six original pieces, while the band also adds one of Lorraine's compositions and five standards, all played in a swinging and boppish style.
