Marvin "Hannibal" Peterson, a trumpeter from Texas, moved to New York in 1970 and played with Gil Evans from 1971 to 1984. He revealed his post-jazz and post-classical ambitions with the five-movement orchestra suite Children of the Fire in 1974, marking the birth of his Sunrise Orchestra.
In July 1975, Hannibal was released, featuring Michael Cochrane on piano, Diedre Murray on cello, bass, and two percussionists.
