Koichi Matsukaze's rare 1978 jazz masterpiece Earth Mother returns as a deluxe repress via BBE Music's J Jazz Masterclass Series. Originally released on Japan's experimental ALM label, this sought-after album remained obscure until now, earning cult status among collectors and DJs. Matsukaze's saxophone leads a stellar trio with legendary drummer Furusawa Ryojiro and bassist Tamio Kawabata, joined by Daitoku Toshiyuki on piano and Fender Rhodes. The album blends heavyweight spiritual jazz and post-bop intensity with adventurous experimentation, including a distinctive interpretation of Round Midnight.
