Crystal Silence features modern compositions by Steve Swallow, Mike Gibbs, and Chick Corea, showcasing the musicians' melodic solos over challenging changes. European elements are present in the improvisations, with little use of traditional blues or bebop. The title track serves as the centerpiece, with Burton and Corea beautifully improvising on the ballad. A sublime demonstration of masterful improvisation, particularly on the flawless first side.
