Broadcast

Strawpeople's  sleek 1994 masterpiece, Broadcast, brought sophisticated, electronically-infused pop to New Zealand audiences like nothing heard before. Born from the late-night studio experiments of Mark Tierney and Paul Casserly at Auckland's bFM, this album blends dance production techniques with jazz sensibilities and contemporary beats. The standout track 'Sweet Disorder' earned the 1995 Silver Scroll Award, cementing the band's innovative approach to studio-crafted pop. Broadcast showcases their producer-engineer philosophy—combining drum machines, samples, synthesisers and loops with soulful vocals to create a timeless collection of hits that redefined local music in the '90s.
