Bossanova

Gil Norton's production gives the Pixies a Martian bar band sound, fitting the cover of "Cecilia Ann" and the closer "Havalina." "Velouria" has science fiction imagery instead of Francis' usual fetishistic lyrics, while "All Over the World" and "The Happening" add to the sci-fi feel. Catchy pop songs like "Allison" and "Dig for Fire" add to Bossanova's playful vibe, but rockers like "Hang Wire" and "Blown Away" fall flat. However, "Rock Music" and "Is She Weird" are fiery and classic Pixies songs. On their previous albums, the Pixies were consistently amazing, making critics and fans judge them harshly for this slightly weaker album.
