Awakening
Paradox Ensemble returns with 'Awakening', a thirteen-piece album blending spiritual jazz, Eastern influences, and West African rhythms. Led by trumpeter Nick Walters, the group combines composed passages with extended improvisation, featuring Ed Cawthorne on sax and flute, Aidan Shepherd on accordion, and live electronic effects. Standout tracks include '34268' (inspired by Togolese rhythms), 'Dear Old Thing' (a tribute to cricket legend Henry Blofeld), and 'Brahman' (exploring Hindu philosophy through music). The album closes with the ethereal 'Zeno'. Rooted in groove and movement, this is music for both listening and dancing—a celebration of musicianship from the UK jazz scene's most respected voices.
