Rod Stewart's sixth album was dubbed "Atlantic Crossing" due to the singer's literal crossing of the Atlantic to America. He had been enamored with actress Britt Ekland and was looking to escape Britain's tax rates. 1975 saw the perfect opportunity for a fresh start for Stewart as The Faces were on their way out, "Smiler" wasn't certifiably liked, and he had finished up his contract with Mercury and then inked a deal with Warner. Stewart polished his signature sound with the help of famed producer Tom Dowd.
