Alpha
Led by LA singer "Round" Robin Lloyd, The Round Robin Monopoly released Alpha in 1974 on Stax's Truth imprint—their only full-length album. This rare gem blends funk, psychedelic pop, and R&B with cinematic hooks, punchy horns, and funky guitar work. Featuring Lloyd's engaging vocals backed by a tight ensemble including conguero Jimmy Lee Thompson, guitarist Larry Greene, and a full horn section, Alpha spans ten tracks from the high-energy "Average Man" to the haunting closer "Prayer of the Prisoner." Despite its inspired sound and obvious appeal, the album was overshadowed when Stax closed shortly after its release. A lost '70s classic finally rediscovered.
