Alive With Ghosts Today is Chris Potter's suite inspired by abolitionist John Brown's 1859 Harpers Ferry raid. Potter explores belief, sacrifice and America's unresolved tensions through a raw soundworld of blues, folk and Copland-influenced harmony. The ensemble—guitar, bass, drums, violin, clarinet and trombone—captures a small-town band's character. Bill Frisell's guitar anchors the emotional core, while Nate Smith and Burniss Travis drive the rhythm. Sarah Caswell's violin, Rane Moore's clarinet and Zekkereya El-magharbel's trombone add depth and texture, creating music that feels lived-in and human.
