A Place Not Far From Here

Formed in 1988, The Perfect Garden was heavily influenced by the British indie music scene, particularly the Jesus and Mary Chain, the Primitives, the Shop Assistants, and Loop. We sought to do something unique in Dunedin, diverting from the Flying Nun scene, and looked towards England, C86, Sarah Records, and Primal Scream to combine jangle, drone rock, and indie. Our best moments were supporting well-known bands and playing sold out shows. Despite band members dispersing and the scene shifting, our 18 months together were a true indie pop dream.
