The Sound Of The 'Chicks' album was recorded after the sisters, Judy and Sue Donaldson, finished their tour with The Pretty Things in the mid-60s. Their unique vocal harmonies and high-energy performances made them instant pop stars in New Zealand. Produced by Mike Perjanik for Viking label, the album featured the hit singles "Hucklebuck" and "Heart Of Stone", recorded in just two takes. Despite their young age (14 and 16 at the time), The Chicks managed to capture the essence of 60s kiwi girl group pop, earning themselves the title of NZ's answer to Spector's girls. With their matching mod hairdos and pop art outfits, The Chicks were a force to be reckoned with in the rock'n'roll scene of New Zealand.
