Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein are well-known for composing the memorable score for Stranger Things and for their roles in Holodeck flagship band S U R V I V E, but the duo have been busy crafting compelling music for a host of other projects. Among those is the score for TV series Butterfly on Hulu.
The approach that Dixon and Stein take with their work on Butterfly underscores a shift for them: it sounds far different from their Stranger Things work. (Aaron’s Note: If anything, it’s more Cliff Martinez or Johnny Jewel than John Carpenter, but I’ll let them describe the shift.)
“We had just come off our first project that had established us as these retrosynth/’80s producers, and we wanted to do something that helped get us out of that box,” Dixon and Stein said in a press release. “Obviously there are still synths being used, and coincidentally some of them are from the ’80s, but hopefully this score won’t be received as such.”
