The album was recorded live, capturing each instrumental moment at the 1976 Berlin Jazz Fest. Cochrane, Murray, and George Adams (who had some serious success playing alongside Charles Mingus) all lend their talents, and Hannibal steals the show with The 23rd Psalm, a personal ode to determination. Trumpet and piano deliver moxious solos. To honor the iconic Sarah Vaughan, Willow Weep for Me is given an anthemic makeover, while for Bessie Smith, John Coltrane's Blues is brought to life. Then, for a taste of his Texan upbringing, Swing Low Sweet Chariot is reimagined with Hannibal's own musical flair. To close the night off, My Favorite Things (you know, that Coltrane classic?) is taken on, with Adams's solo echoing the legendary Trane while Hannibal radiates an euphoric intensity.
