Description

Black, Brown and Beautiful is an album by American jazz composer/arranger Oliver Nelson featuring performances by a big band recorded in 1969 and first released on the Flying Dutchman label.

"Black, Brown and Beautiful" was Oliver Nelson's address to the state of black America after Martin Luther King's assassination. Tracks like "Requiem," "Lamb of God," and "Martin Was A Man, A Real Man" directly address King's passing, while "Self Help Is Needed" and "I Hope In Time A Change Will Come" ask questions still unanswered today. Nelson's words still resonate: "Federal Government wasn't going to do a damn thing and American Blacks were going to have to do it themselves."
