For a start, there’s the title. Lumpy Gravy? Even by the standards of the psychedelic 60's, that was one weird way of asking a potential customer too part with their money. If they did, however, they were richly rewarded.
A bubbling composition alternating between concepts, spoken word, noises and flat out brilliant orchestration. Listeners new to Zappa, as the previous reviewer notes, should not start here - look to Hot Rats as a starting place. But Zappa fans will find no disappointment here, in a time when he was at an unrivalled creative peak.
