Description

Similar to John Prine's earlier album, Sweet Revenge, 'German Afternoons' is a mellow yet intelligent country album with a tranquil pace and lively accompaniment from the New Grass Revival. Released in 1986 under Prine's independent label Oh Boy, the album opens with a fantastic rendition of the Carter Family's "Lulu Walls" and continues with the catchy "Let's Talk Dirty in Hawaiian" and the classic ballad "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness," which was also performed by Nanci Griffith on her Other Voices, Other Rooms album. Other standouts include "Linda Goes to Mars" and a re-recorded version of Prine's debut "Paradise."
