Quincy Jones' decades of unparalleled success in pop music shouldn't obscure his days as a jazz arranger in the '60s. This LP features Jones' Big Band, who sailed to Europe soon after. Despite Jones' lack of musical contribution, the record contains stellar performances of classic bop tunes such as "Lester Leaps In," "Cherokee," and "Air Mail Special." Soloists include altoist Phil Woods, tenorman Budd Johnson, guitarist/flutist Les Spann, French hornist Julius Watkins, trumpeter Art Farmer, and two guest spots for trumpeter Lee Morgan.
