In 1982, Japanese ambient pioneer Hiroshi Yoshimura composed Music for Nine Postcards, influenced by the view of trees from the Hara Museum. The songs, played in specific physical spaces, are built on simple melodies and have a timeless, universal effect. These pieces, along with Yoshimura's other work, are increasingly relevant as public spaces become more anxiety-inducing.
